"Recognizing the Voice of the God"
Walter Beuttler

Tonight we are coming to the “voice” of the Spirit.  Again I would like you to remember that what I am giving you is fragmentary, the reason being that there is ever so much more to be said about the subject than we have time to say.  But the things I do say ought to be helpful to many of you.

First I would like to chat along the line of the means of recognition, or the means by which we can recognize the voice of the Spirit.  Now there are three of these principal means and they are: revelation, associationand cultivation.  Three diverse means of recognizing, that is, identifying, or if you prefer, discerning thevoice of the Spirit:

 1).    Revelation

2).    Association

 3).    Cultivation

The first one, Revelation,  is in I Samuel 3:1-10.  This is a very remarkable passage.

“And the child Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli.  And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.”  I Samuel 3:1

Here perhaps, I need to make a bit of an explanation.  You know that all languages change.  Words change their meanings over the years, or centuries.  The same is true of the Bible.  In the Bible we have words which meant something different in the days in which the Bible was translated.

For instance, Jesus said, “Suffer the little children to come to Me.”  We are not using that terminology today.  We do say, “Permit them to come.” The word has changed its meaning over some four centuries
